Microsoft PowerPoint Associate — Full Course Overview
A complete map of the 9-week course: scope, exam alignment, week-by-week pacing, projects, outcomes, and the readiness gates that move you from one phase to the next.
What This Course Is
A 9-week, project-driven preparation course for the Microsoft Office Specialist: PowerPoint Associate exam — Certiport MO-310 on the Microsoft 365 Apps track. Every week produces a presentation you would actually deliver — not a tour of features for their own sake. Every project is graded against the same five-dimension rubric the exam itself measures against.
The course is organized into three units and nine weeks. Each week follows a four-chunk rhythm — Lesson → Practice → Build → Wrap Up — and is accompanied by a parallel set of teacher resources. The final week is intentionally a review week: two timed Knowledge Pillars Exam Simulator attempts under exam conditions, with a targeted remediation block in between, authorize the official MO-310 attempt at the testing center.
The Three Units at a Glance
The 9 weeks group into three phases. Foundations build the muscle memory the rest of the course assumes. Core Skills cover all five MO-310 domains through targeted project weeks. Integration & Review combine everything under exam conditions and finish with structured simulator practice.
Foundations
Interface fluency, views, file management, themes, presentation properties, and protection. The foundation everything else builds on.
Core Skills
All five MO-310 domains through project-driven weeks: masters & sections, text & shapes, images & accessibility, tables & charts, media & animation.
Integration & Review
Full-length practice mock under exam conditions, then two timed Knowledge Pillars Exam Simulator practice tests before the official MO-310 attempt.

The Three Readiness Gates
Progression through the course is gated. Each gate exists because the next phase assumes you can perform earlier skills without thinking about them.
| Gate | When | What It Checks · Threshold |
|---|---|---|
| Gate 1 Foundations | End of Week 3 | Foundations & Masters Check. Cumulative across Weeks 1–2 plus Week 3 masters/sections. ≥ 70% clears entry into Week 4 visual design work. |
| Gate 2 Mock Exam | End of Week 8 | Full-Length Practice Mock. 50-minute, ~35-task mock across all five domains. Performance determines how the Week 9 remediation block is targeted. |
| Gate 3 Authorization | End of Week 9 | Knowledge Pillars Exam Simulator. Two timed attempts. ≥ 80% on the second attempt authorizes the official MO-310 attempt at the testing center. |
The Master Rubric
Every weekly build project is graded on the same five dimensions. The rubric does not change from Week 1 to Week 8. Memorize it — it reflects what the MO-310 exam itself rewards.
| Dimension | Weight | What It Measures |
|---|---|---|
| Task Completion | 35% | Every required deliverable produced, every checklist item ticked. |
| Feature Choice | 20% | The right PowerPoint feature for the job — not the most elaborate one. |
| Design & Accessibility | 20% | Visual hierarchy, theme consistency, alt text, clean Accessibility Checker pass. |
| Communication | 15% | The deck delivers its message to the stated audience. |
| Professionalism | 10% | File hygiene, naming, properties, version handling. |
What You’ll Need
- PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 Apps on Windows desktop. Not PowerPoint Online. The MO-310 exam runs in the desktop application — your practice has to match.
- A Microsoft account for OneDrive file storage and AutoSave.
- A microphone for the recording work in Week 7. A webcam is optional but recommended.
- Knowledge Pillars Exam Simulator access — provided by your instructor. Used informally through the course and intensively in Week 9.
- A consistent workspace — same monitor size and seating during Week 8 and Week 9 timed attempts so the exam-day ergonomics are familiar.
MO-300 rather than MO-310. The objective domains overlap substantially; your instructor will flag the few places where tasks differ.
For Teachers
Every week has a parallel set of teacher resources matching the student four-chunk structure: Plan (dashboard, prep checklist, pacing), Teach (delivery notes section-by-section), Assess (rubrics, answer keys), and Differentiate (extensions, remediation, parent communication). Teacher pages are clearly marked and not linked from student chunks.
