Welcome to the Course

This course teaches you to program in Java, one of the most widely used languages in the world — it powers everything from Android apps to massive business systems. You’ll begin with no assumptions about prior experience and finish able to write, compile, and run real Java programs with confidence.

Every unit is hands-on. You’ll read short explanations, try interactive examples, and write code at each step. And instead of disconnected exercises, your learning is tied together by one ongoing project that grows with your skills.

🎉 The Escape Room Project: Across all 8 units you build a single text-based Escape Room game in Java. Unit 1 starts with a welcome screen. Each unit adds new mechanics built from what you just learned. By Unit 8, you’ll have a complete, playable adventure — and proof of everything you can do.

🎮 The Escape Room, Level by Level

Your project isn’t a one-time assignment — it’s a game that gets better every unit. You begin with a simple welcome message and steadily add variables, decisions, loops, objects, inventories, reusable methods, clean design, and error handling. The skill you learn in each unit becomes a feature in your game, so you can always see exactly why it matters. By the end, you’ll have built a complete text adventure from scratch — and you’ll understand every line of it.

Certification & What You Need

This course is aligned to the Java Coding Apprentice (JCA) certification. Each unit maps to specific exam objectives, and completing all 8 units prepares you to demonstrate that you can write, run, and reason about real Java programs.
