Step 2

An API key is a unique code that allows your WordPress site to communicate with external services, such as the weather service we’re using in this example. Think of it like a key that unlocks access to data from another service. By providing this key to the plugin, you're authorizing it to retrieve specific information—like the weather data—on your behalf. Each API key is unique to the user and service, ensuring that the data is only shared with authorized users. In this case, OpenWeather uses your API key to know who is requesting the data and to ensure that only your website can access the weather information you ask for. OpenWeather will email your API key, but you can also retrieve it from OpenWeather’s API keys page (https://qrco.de/bfPh1A). Copy the API key; we will need to paste it into the plugin.
